Learning together, caring for each other
Seekers and servants, growing in God’s transforming love
Falcon Heights Church offers adults many opportunities to continue growing in their faith, and to practice Christian love within the church community by praying for and sharing food with families facing health problems, bereavement and other challenges.
Adult ministries
- Our weekly Tuesday morning Bible study offers a preview of the lectionary readings for the coming Sunday and their theological and historical context.
- Our Sunday First Hour faith formation includes special discussion topics for adults. Recently we’ve offered video and internet-based series such as “Transformation,” featuring Father Richard Rohr, and “Living the Questions,” an exploration of progressive Christianity. We’ve also offered educational forums after worship, including a session on LGBT issues and the Bible.
- Book discussion groups are offered periodically and key in to current interests of our congregation. Recent examples: “Wisdom Jesus,” by Cynthia Bourgeault; “America and Its Guns,” by James E. Atwood; and “The New Jim Crow,” by Michelle Alexander.
Inreach ministries
- Our Prayer Team, open to all, meets monthly to pray for people in the congregation who are ill, bereaved or facing other challenges, as well as the church’s leaders and situations in the wider community. We also maintain a prayer list for others in the congregation who want to hold people in individual prayer.
- Volunteers prepare and deliver meals to families experiencing a health or other crisis.
- Volunteers also make visits to shut-ins and others who could use a friendly visit.
- Our church maintains a longstanding partnership with Lyngblomsten (in the nearby Como neighborhood), which provides a variety of community services to keep seniors in their homes.
