New merger moves coming up
Feb. 6, 2025
By Rev. Rick King
Since New Life’s very positive vote Jan. 19, our leaders have been moving quickly on the work of this next chapter.
In this week’s “Seeking and Serving” column, I want to tell you what’s been happening in the past week, and what to watch for.
Already, the newly named Merger Steering Committee has met twice, once last Thursday and again this past Tuesday. Members are Rev. Rick King, Rev. Riz Prakasim, Bryan Seyfarth, Jane Husman, Carol Holm, and Tom Ruter. Last Thursday, we…
- Welcomed new committee members Carol Holm from FHC and Tom Ruter from New Life;
- Prayed together;
- Discussed how we’ll operate (overseeing a number of work groups drawn from both churches focusing on specific areas like building and grounds, finances, worship, care, and others);
- Looked at a thorough list of merger-related tasks that Tom put together from his experience leading the previous merger, in 2012, that created New Life.
We talked generally about which matters should come first on our list of priorities, and then at this past Tuesday’s meeting we went in-depth on our strategic priorities and anticipated timelines.
More is coming up soon! Our next joint worship service is next Sunday, Feb. 16, here at Falcon Heights, Rev. Riz preaching. The Merger Steering Committee has set a twice-a-month meeting schedule, with our next meeting on Wednesday night, Feb. 19, at 5:30 p.m. at FHC.
So, watch this space and others in the TAB and Facebook for more information from Moderator Bryan Seyfarth and others about opportunities to get involved hands-on in the work of bringing this merger about!
