Pack the Pews food drive

Last year Falcon Heights Church packed the two back pews in the sanctuary with much-needed food items for the Department of Indian Work (DIW) food shelf. We’d like to repeat or even better that response this year.

We’d like to “Pack the Pews” with donated food on Sunday, March 30. Bring items to donate and leave them in the alcove of the church lobby any time between now and March 30. We’ll bring them into the sanctuary to Pack the Pews on March 30.

We’d also like to “Sort the Stuff” this year, as that will save DIW workers a lot of time and energy. This will be an intergenerational activity, immediately after the worship service on March 30. We’d especially like to invite our children to help with the sorting, assisted by our youth. The Outreach Ministry Team will be on hand to explain the sorting process and everyone is invited to pitch in.

Your donations in March have a big impact, since the weight of the food donated this month affects the amount of money DIW receives to stock their food shelves for the rest of the year. Any non-perishable food items are greatly appreciated, but the most needed items currently are as follows:

  • Cooking oil
  • Flour (clients prefer white all-purpose flour)
  • Cornbread mix (this flies off the shelves)
  • Rice
  • Canned vegetables and fruits; especially popular are canned mixed vegetables, canned corn kernels (NOT creamed corn) and canned mango.
  • Mac and cheese
  • Pancake mix
  • Canned tuna
  • Snacks (Chips Ahoy-type chocolate chip cookies are a favorite treat)

Also, toilet paper and paper towels don’t weigh a lot, but they are always greatly appreciated!
